BET Announces Return Of Black + Iconic Soirée With Laverne Cox Hosting And Lavelle Dontae Leading The Red Carpet

BET is bringing back its Black + Iconic Soirée for 2026, with a night dedicated to honoring culture, community, and impact.

The event is set to take place on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at MGM National Harbor in Oxon, Maryland. The annual celebration highlights the intersectionality of the Black and LGBTQ+ communities while recognizing cultural leaders, advocates, and changemakers.

Emmy nominated actress, producer, and advocate Laverne Cox will host this year’s event, bringing her voice and cultural influence to the evening. Comedian and content creator Lavelle Dontae will host the red carpet, setting the tone as guests arrive for the celebration.

The Black + Iconic Soirée will bring together entertainers, leaders, and community voices for an intimate evening of recognition, reflection, performances, and honors. Grammy nominated singer and songwriter Tweet is also set to take the stage for a special performance, where she will perform two songs during the event.

BET says the 2026 event will include an awards dinner and live performances, with select moments captured for a pre taped streaming experience.

The soirée continues BET’s mission of creating spaces that celebrate Black culture, authentic storytelling, and the voices shaping the next generation.
